pictures never lie ?

I'd say they do. Most of the time. Like this time. There's no chance a 23m fountain starts in one chimney and ends in another on a rooftop. No, the truth is that the angle just happened to fit. This is a second picture of the fountain found on Pixels earlier.

#4 in a series of 6

The coach stops and our guide tell us that this is probably the most photographed place in Stockholm; that we probably all want to take our own picture of it.

Since we are here I do take a picture but why would I want to just copy a scene that I could easily buy a good-focused one of on a postcard?

Maybe you know where we are or maybe you don't. Before I reveal the whole picture, let's skate around it.

First: Take a look at some sky.

Second: Take a look at some water.

Third: Take a look at some more of the sky

Fourth: Now we have some sky (some of the same sky as in #3; some water but not actually the same patch as in #2; another photographer.

Do you know where we are yet?

Bird at sail boat

I don't know how to translate the Swedish expression "bryggseglare" but the owner of this boat must be true one. A "bryggseglare" is a person who owns a boat and most of the time hangs around in the marina instead of being out sailing, he or she also talks very much and always has a story to tell. Picture taken at Ekerö outside Stockholm in Lake Mälaren.

Bridge over calm water

This bridge is the only way to town if you live on Ekerö, Munsö or Adelsö in Lake Mälaren. Behind the corner on the other side of the bridge is a small cafe with excellent shrimp sandwiches to a reasonable price and you can more your boat just outside the place.

blues for waldemarsudde

Waldemarsudde ("Cape of Waldemar") has it all. History, culture and a lovely park. Oh, and some boats as well. If we join Gerald on tram #7 and hang around until dusk, this is what we might see.

Fountain of Youth (3)

...previously on plenty

This is what I could see under the bridge/short tunnel that I posted last week.

I didn't know at the time what it was and spent some time looking at maps and scouring websites trying to figure out where it was.

After it was featured a couple of times on Stockholm by Pixels, I finally worked it out and using googlemaps and virtual earth managed to retrace my journey around the city.

This is Sergel's Torg aka Fountain of Youth.

The nibble is history

This yellow bit is the fifth bit in the collection, thus the nibble is history.

Port scans reveals maintenance error

Missing woodwork reveals heavy mooring or at least violent manoeuvres.

going out on a limb

Creativity is generally a good thing. We need to try new approaches, have new ideas. This tree by Norrviken has taken the concept a bit too far. Settling down right at the waterfront was not a brilliant move. Growing (almost) horizontally is an odd strategy. Still, makes for some interesting shots.

Springtime Stockholm, part 3 (5)

IMG_1251

Some people are fortunate enough to be able to enjoy this spectacular view from a veranda of their own whenever they find the time.

Others, perhaps less fortunate in the veranda perspective of Stockholm, might still have a stroke of luck being invited to coffee in the garden below the veranda. A place which offers an almost as spectacular view as the perspective from above.

water week: corrosively yours

Water is corrosive stuff. Cars and other vehicles are constantly being eaten away and the costs are, well, fantasillions. This, incidentally, is the roof of a car near the Karlberg Canal and so far it looks nice.

water week: behind the boathouse

There's a first for everything. This was the first sunny, lazy afternoon of spring by Norrviken.

water week: bath ducks

bath ducks with rescue crew. This picture is taken at Jungfrusunds marina 2007 a exhibition, yes it is warm water and they were cold after several hours practicing in lake Mälaren during the Mälarö island fair last year.

water week: defroster on

For months people were merrily skating around here all day long. When I stopped by Medborgarplatsen ("the Citizens' Plaza") three weeks ago the ice was rather miserable as you can see. Now of course it's all gone.
