At the Tram Stop

Here is the tram stop and that workman again.

The Scottish Play

Here is the Dramaten one of Stockholm's many theatres.

They are putting on Shakespeare's "Scottish Play". I don't know if it is the case in Sweden but it is a superstition in the UK that saying the word "Macbeth" whilst in a theatre is bad luck for the performers. To avoid risking the luck of the actors and performances, Macbeth is commonly referred to as "The Scottish Play".

You can also see here, the top of a tram. More of that later.

Berzelii Park

Nobody responded to my last post on dry land.

Whether you didn't know or didn't care, no matter.

This is Berzelii Park, or at least the entrance thereto. In the hot summer of 1951, it was the scene of the so called Berzelii Riots, when bored, and often drunk young people gathered in the park night after night. The continuing riots escalated and reached their peak on the night of August 26, when there was a stand off between 3000 young people and policemen called in from five different cites, including military police.

Whether these stones are some kind of memorial to that day, I have no idea. At first I thought it was an outdoor chess set, but clearly it is some sort of artwork. Is it still there?

af Chapman

Earlier I showed you some rigging.

Here is the whole ship.

Seemingly it entered service as the Dunboyne in 1888 and once carried passengers between Ireland and Australia. During World War II it was a Swedish Navy barracks ship.

Since 1949, the af-Chapman , as it is now known, has been used as a youth hostel.

Shortly after this picture was taken, it was towed away for renovation, but is due to return later this year.

Rigging

The rigging of a three-masted schooner.

If you look closely you may see a seagull in there somewhere.

What's the ship?
Where has it been?
Where is it going?

Some of you will know. I'll show you more later.

last summer

At the North Hammarby Harbor opposite Hammarby Sjöstad, a lot of ships can be found that are used as floating summer houses or as permanent homes.

On the water

I've been on this canalboat for some time now. The guide has been pointing out this and that while I've jotted notes and taken photos. Information overload is setting in.

I think that is Skeppsholmen over there and one of the city's numerous museums, but I'm not sure I really want to know. I'm sitting low down in the cool waters on this summer sunny day. Let's just relax and watch the world go by.

giraffes

Last week I asked are we near the zoo?

The answer is not really, but on the shore here are these cranes that have been painted to look like giraffes.

are we near the Zoo?

Is this stretch of water near the zoo?

What is it that might make one think so?

Reading by the Mill

Last week I asked if people knew where the man was reading.
Pia was of course spot on and although Peter edged his bets, he did us a map. He was indeed by the Mill as this larger picture shows.

a man reading

I found this man sitting on a bench quietly reading.

Do you know the location?

View From a Bridge

With winter solstice being over and done with, we can finally begin looking forward, seeing a bit more daylight each and every day - and this set of pictures is a reminiscent of the glorious, luscious summer past as well as a reminder of what lies ahead of us. In just a few months time we can hopefully enjoy this view from a bridge called the Western once again.

And if we've been nice enough, someone might treat us to a coffee break named fika at this semi-secret hideout below the bridge. With a wonderful and relaxing view over the city we love so much...

what is this building behind the trees?

What is this building behind the trees?

I thought it was Waldemarsudde but after my last couple of posts, and a bit of googling, I'm not so certain. It is west of Täcka Udden and east of the Mill.
