the högdalen rooster

...previously on plenty

Högdalen has a neon rooster overlooking its shopping center. In fact, it appears twice in this photo. Can you spot it?

colourful challenge

Once upon a time there was a sunny Monday in early May when we were still completely baffled by the green colours around us. The florist Blomsterhandeln Mimosa by Odengatan boldly competed offering flowers as well.

going out on a limb

Creativity is generally a good thing. We need to try new approaches, have new ideas. This tree by Norrviken has taken the concept a bit too far. Settling down right at the waterfront was not a brilliant move. Growing (almost) horizontally is an odd strategy. Still, makes for some interesting shots.

Springtime Stockholm, part 5 (5)

In the very southern outskirts of Stockholm's suburbs lies the old Salem church. A church with an unusual, charming and befittingly placid cemetery for the final rest, beautifully situated near the lake of Bornsjön. The church has been rebuilt during many centuries but the tower and the baptismal font, both still in place, stem from the 12 century.

This cemetery is a lovely place for peaceful walks while contemplating our brief moment here on earth, and when springtime amidst all these burial places you'll find tiny signs of new life, of hope, of new beginnings since the place is simply brimming with adorable, tiny primulas.

If you happen to be in the vicinity, do pay this place of tranquility a visit, I'm certain it has it's merits all year around.

Springtime Stockholm, part 4 (5)

IMG_1481

On springdays like these Stockholmers can be resembled to a lemming migration when they in hoards head out to one of Stockholm's major waterholes at Djurgården. Namely Rosendals Gardens.

IMG_1516

Not only can you have something delicious to eat at the well-renowned café - but be there early since the place tends to get really crowded on sunny days - you can pick your own flowers, buy something nice in the lovely stocked shop, even attend different classes and lectures in gardening, cooking, baking and herbs. The place is also available for rent to private parties.

IMG_1503

Whether you chose to have a coffee and cake indoors in the greenhouse, outdoors in the designated eating area or go picnic style on the vast stretching lawns, the place is very much worth a visit. And even if you can be pretty sure you're not the only one heading there it's also usually possible to create your own little oasis in midst of it all. Breath in, breath out, relax.

Springtime Stockholm, part 3 (5)

IMG_1251

Some people are fortunate enough to be able to enjoy this spectacular view from a veranda of their own whenever they find the time.

Others, perhaps less fortunate in the veranda perspective of Stockholm, might still have a stroke of luck being invited to coffee in the garden below the veranda. A place which offers an almost as spectacular view as the perspective from above.

Springtime Stockholm, part 2 (5)

Now is the month of May and I think one can safely assume (hope, touch wood) that there will be no more need of wool scarves and caps this season. That is, if your not a dutiful lamp post standing guard at the busy pedestrian street part of Götgatan.

Someone cared and adorned this lamp post with a pretty warming overgarment. This particular lamp post can be found not far away from the Iceman/Tulipman.

Springtime Stockholm, part 1 (5)

The month of April is notoriously capricious, yet full of promise and hope of greener, lusher days. This is the time for dusting down that ol' garden hose. Not to mention, bringing out those long time not seen garden furniture. And if you happen to have a lyre nearby, the perfect time to play a little celebratory tune.

This particular garden with furniture can be found at one of Stockholm's suburbs most delightful cafes, Lyran (The Lyre), anno 1867.

Spring is in the (H)air

As soon as there's the slightest hint of Spring in the air almost every kind of Stockholmer get excited wanting to look their best - even the cobblestone streets like to get whatever hair they have done. Curling stone style.

and the not so icy man ?

In an entirely different season, some time ago, the iceman had it much better. Wonder if he remembers it ? Maybe it occupies his mind all of the time, being all frozen now.....

Our most recent joint stroll was particularly rewarding. But all good things come to an end. This shot from Carl’s Road (Karlavägen) concludes my May 10 collection.

Age of Enlightenment

The magical first afternoon of spring by Sergels Torg saw a steady stream of happy citizens resembling a colony of ants merrily rushing from and to whatever while enjoying the sunlight

Just keep looking, there’s still some snow around. I snapped this one earlier today behind the hockey arena Vilundahallen in Upplands-Väsby.
