winter waterway

As Per wrote today on Stockholm by pixels: "We travel across our waterways, we fish in the inner city and during those flickering short moments of Nordic summer we swim in this surprisingly clean water" and "January 2008 didn't bring us any winter weather".

So true. This photo was taken a fortnight ago in South central Stockholm. The house is on the isle Reimersholme and the marina on the right is on the island of Långholmen. The canoeist is on his way from Riddarfjärden where lay City Hall on Per's photo.

On the southeastern parts of Södermalm there are still plenty of old red wooden houses. Some of them are grouped together like a small community in the middle of highways and modern housing.

after the snow came

This street is called Urvädersgränd and is situated on top of Götgatsbacken. The famous Swedish poet and composer Carl Michael Bellman (1740-1795) used to live in the orange house.

We're still at Blecktornstrappan on that busy Saturday afternoon. Turning our backs at Mariatorget for a moment, we look in the opposite direction.

Bastugatan ("the Sauna Street") has many nice old houses. People like to decorate their windows. Could this one belong to a sailor?

Mosebacke Etablissement is a place where you can enjoy live music as well as a good meal. Well, the menu sounds nice at least. Haven't tried it yet. This is right in the heart of söder.

on the hills of the South
