busy times

As a single parent, caring for a big family....

Actually the pic is lying a bit. I noticed the bird (a great tit) coming out from behind the hatch, and a few moments later flying in again, staying a while and then out again. I got curious and had a look. Eight small ones in one nest, that has to be a big family! I wonder what became of them, if all survived?

Power bit or painted connections

I found this nice power or telephone connection point in a park this winter.

Hungry Seagull

Fåfängan ("Place of the Vain") has a very nice view of Stockholm. However, you should not leave your plate unattended.

super size them

These guys are pretty impressive and they're clearly into fast food. The two swans in the Karlberg Canal spent thirty seconds investigating whether I had anything edible in store and then moved on to other hunting grounds.

urban tree

This tree by Odengatan has seen quite a few Christmas holidays come and go. If you're a tree, January is perfect for resting. Regaining your strength. Before long all those green leaves are due again.

have a nice walk (2)

photo: Lena Johansson

Walking here the day after Christmas I found decorations hanging in the trees along the path. Somebody wished the walkers a Merry Christmas. Or was it to the birds?

have a nice walk

photo: Lena Johansson

You can start a 7 km long walk here, around lake Aspen in Botkyrka south of Stockholm. Seven bridges and paths take you around. In a minute or two you are far from cars and buildings. Have a nice walk - but - in the summertime - be aware of vipers sleeping in the sun, looking fat and round, just here! Jump over them or walk another day... (Swedish text here)

(not your average) Rose Garden

Continuing our sequel on the aesthetic merits of Hallonbergen,
these roses seem pretty happy with their place in the morning sun

Welcome to Auntie O's Grove

At Stockholm's southside, on the hillsides' of Aunty O's mountain (Tantoberget) you'll find the allotments of Aunty O's Grove (Tantolunden). The area has been farmed since 1915, and today it consists of 111 allotments and a long queue for having one's own piece of paradise in the middle of the hustling and bustling city.

And remember, no matter how big or small, highflying or soildigging, there's always room to grow at Aunty O's Grove.

Summer in the Bay of Winter

070817 086

This used to be quite the explosive place once upon a time, when Alfred Nobel’s nitro-glycerine blasting bunkers could be found at Vinterviken. Now it's a peaceful haven for stressed cityfolks and garden enthusiasts alike.

070817 071

The only exploding done here nowadays are nature's abundance of colours!

Even if evidentely there are still danger lurking and venomous snakes to be found in this Garden of Eden...

More information on Vinterviken can be found at Vintervikens Trädgårdsförening (Garden Society), only in Swedish.

individualism

I once saw a graffiti saying “Only dead salmon follow the stream”. This dove is certainly a live salmon.

Some fungal species are used for their psychedelic properties.
This one by Spånga torg is probably harmless.

spring is not over quite yet

These were part of the catch from our stroll on the 10th of may. They deserve at least a place on plenty.

keeping the myth alive

"Sweden ? Oh, yes, that's where you have polar bears
in the streets, right ?"
Boy, is it going to be hard to fight that remark away now :-)
I found this one in the middle of Stockholm, sitting outside Gallerian. Thank God it's not for real, even if the cause definately is for real. It's part of a week of information about global warming. The glaciers are melting away and this poor fellow and his/her more living friends might find themselves without a place to live...

ouch!

You don't want to come too close to these thorns, but admit that they are beautiful ? They're obviously from a cactus, and it's located in the greenhouse at Bergian Garden, called Edvard Andersons Greenhouse.

plenty more from Stockholm, Sweden - click on photos to enlarge!
