unexpected

was this view of mosaic windows, inside one of the grave-chambers, at the Northern cemetery. At first I just wanted to take a closeup of the "shield" on the massive door, but to my surprise there was a little more to it, so the shield got lesser attention for a while.

restingplace

Some live in big houses while they're alive, and some will not have it any other way in death either. These must be two of the larger ones at the Northern cemetery. There will be more from this place over the next few weeks. Both here and on Pixels.

skogskyrkogården (5)

Copper being stolen at the Woodland Cemetery. Sadly, that's how we take care of this world heritage.

here we come - embrace us

Back at Woodland Cemetery again, it seems that these guys are trying to make it for a final escape through the roof. John Lundqvist made the Resurrection statue at the Holy cross (map).
(thanks to Per for correcting me)

A world heritage is something we're supposed to take care of and preserve for generations to come. That's easier said than done. Here's a traffic mirror at the Woodland Cemetery. Looks like it's been shot at. (map)

remembering dear ones

I found this couple at the Woodland cemetery. There was a certain feeling over the scene. They had obviously lost someone very dear, and probably not too long ago. They visited and made more out of it than just a visit. They stayed for quite a while, I saw them on my way in and on my way out. Later on I saw the circle of lights burning and the couple had left. It was moving. I've never seen someone spend time like that before. Maybe we all should every now and then. Sit and just remember that life is just borrowed time?

All Saints’ Day

The All Saints’ Day feast occurs in Sweden on the first Saturday after 1 November. On this day all the saints that don’t have a particular day of their own are celebrated. Traditionally Swedes visit their ancestors’ graves and light candles. It can be a quite spectacular scene, here we see Eds Church outside Upplands Väsby in the greater Stockholm.

the gate to faith

This is one way to get to the chapel of faith at Woodland cemetery. There are other more dull ones too. This is more tempting.

"Walking to the chapels, this way"

Most everything at the Woodland Cemetery, from the landscape down to the details, has distinct artistic qualities (here)

more headstones

As promised, here is another one from the Woodland Cemetery. This one really shows why it's called Woodland, don't you think ?

skogskyrkogården

Today is not subway day but it's theme day alright so we take the "green line" to Skogskyrkogården, our Woodland Cemetery. The very first things we notice on the station platform are these comfy chairs by Hans Bartos. It's a wooden place altogether and not just the landscape. (here)

The cemetery is officially a UNESCO World Heritage. We will see more of Skogskyrkogården in the coming weeks.
