It's nice, but how it works?
My guess is that water drips onto the surfaces and evaporates before these plate-like thingies get filled up. Consequently, no more dripping onto the platform. At least not from this very spot. Just my 2c.

I think you are right, a simple very good idea!
Water is a perpetual problem down there so a simple invention can be a good help...
