...and he left his friend "Mårten Gåskarl", the tame goose, behind to tell about it. The whole statue is covered with pictures from "The wonderful adventures of Nils" by Selma Lagerlöf. The statue is created by Edvin Öhrströms and is actually called "the big white", which leads the thoughts more towards a shark than a goose, IMHO. Edvin is perhaps more renowned for another piece - Surprised ?

Correct me if I am wrong, I have been to Neglinge several times without paying attention to this sculpture, but "the big white" should refer to the tame goose Mårten who is also a travel companion?
Svenske Floyd: You are absolutely right! Shame on me. I was so sure that Akka was the goose. She's the lead-goose of the wild ones. Mårten Gåskarl is the big white, that Nils tries to salvage, but ends up riding on his back across Sweden. Thanks for being so observant. I will change the text.
His other sculpture is certainly well-known but for whatever reason the artist himself has remained strangely unknown.
