not having been to Venice I couldn't say but judging by the photos I've seen of the place, Stockholm would seem to have much more open water in the main.
I haven't travelled much but Venice has been on my menu twice actually. The comparison with Stockholm isn't very accurate for several reasons. Venice is richer in terms of cultural heritage. As far as the water is concerned, you can swim and fish in Stockholm. Don't try that in Venice.

...kanal, canale, channel... we like to think of our city as the Venice of the North. Be that as it may, there's certainly a lot of water around!
